Pișchia Commune

Pişchia (Bruckenau in German, Hidasliget in Hungarian) is a commune in the Timiş county, Banat, Romania, consisting of the villages of Bencecu de Jos, Bencecu de Sus, Murani, Pişchia (seat locality) and Sălciua Nouă.

The Pișchia commune is 20 km away from the city of Timișoara, in the NE direction, and 49 km away from the town of Lipova, being crossed by DJ 691. It covers an area of 12360.58 ha. It is bordered by the following localities: to the east by the Masloc commune, to the west by the Orțişoara commune, to the south by the Giarmata commune, to the west by the Sînandrei commune. It is a commune that is situated in the contact area between the Lipova hills and the Timiș plain, being a hilly physical-geographic region.

According to the census carried out in 2011, the population of the Pișchia commune amounts to 3,051 inhabitants, increasing from the previous census in 2002, when there were 3,006 inhabitants.

Most of the inhabitants are Romanian (90.72%). The main minorities are Roma (3.47%) and Hungarians (1.28%). For 3.41% of the population, the ethnicity is unknown. From the confessional point of view, most of the inhabitants are Orthodox (89.87%), but Roman Catholic (3.24%) and Pentecostal (2.13%) minorities also exist. For 3.47% of the population, the confessional membership is unknown.
